His Highness Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Executive Council, has given the green light for the establishment of a specialized medical city dedicated to women and children’s health in Abu Dhabi. This initiative, presented by the Department of Health – Abu Dhabi and PureHealth, is set to significantly enhance the emirate’s healthcare ecosystem and solidify its position as a leading healthcare destination.
The medical city will encompass Sheikh Khalifa Medical City (SKMC) as a Center of Excellence for pediatric care, the Corniche Hospital dedicated to women and newborns’ health, a rehabilitation facility, and a mental health center for women and children. The Center of Excellence at SKMC will provide exceptional care to patients from across the UAE and around the world, offering 29 specialties including oncology, ophthalmology, neurosurgery, and cardiac medicine.
Furthermore, plans include the transfer of Corniche Hospital facilities to the vicinity of Sheikh Khalifa Medical City to further enhance the integrated services system of the new medical city. Scheduled to open in 2027, the new hospital will offer specialized care in obstetrics and gynecology, fertility and assisted reproductive services, and women’s mental and general health.
The medical city will also be home to the Salma Children’s Rehabilitation Hospital, as well as a center for women and children’s mental health. With a focus on research and innovation in the field of children’s health, this initiative is set to elevate healthcare services for women and children in Abu Dhabi, meeting the community’s current and future healthcare needs.
